Art by the Lake

Duluth is an incredible city that inspires great art. With rolling hills, breathtaking waterfalls and the mighty Lake Superior, there is art all around.

Duluth is situated at the head of the largest, freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. It overlooks the international harbor bringing in ships from throughout the world. It also has Park Point, the longest inhabited sandbar in the world.

A Brief History

The city was built around timber, shipping grain and iron ore. For a moment in the late 19th century it had more millionaires per capita than anywhere else in the states, and the city and its architecture reflect this. The ore that came out of the nearby Mesabi iron range created the steel that built Chicago, New York and helped with efforts in WWI and WWII.

Life in Duluth, MN

The city is bisected by beautiful parks, trails, streams and waterfalls. Duluth has created a top-rated trail system for hiking and mountain biking and even offers surfing when Lake Superior gets all riled up. Outdoor magazine voted it the “Best Outdoor City” a few years ago.

Despite its bad reputation, the winter in Duluth can be a bit warmer because of the “lake effect”. Though the winter is a few weeks longer, this season is really comparable to the Twin Cities.
